There is much talk about meditation lately. The benefits of meditation is even being discussed in our medical world. Benefits of reduce high blood pressure, stress, etc. Rates of illness are reduced while rates of healing increase.
Meditation has even touched our schools and has proven beneficial to our youth providing better focus, attention, productivity, etc. Schools/students’ grades are going up and violence is going down.
So how does it work? How long do I have to meditate to gain these benefits? Do I have to take a class? How much is it going to cost? How much time does it take as I don’t have much time? These are the many questions and concerns people have when beginning an new regiment. Just like exercising, we need to start out small and build, do what we can in time dedicated, but do it regularly.
The CCOC has meditation groups that meet weekly where you are introduced to various techniques by lay people who have been meditating for several years and are well practiced in this art form. Once you find a technique you are comfortable with, take it home and practice it. Find and create a space or place where you can meditate uninterrupted. Maybe invite your family, friends and/or roommate to participate. Meditation is natural, simple, and not associated with any religious practice.
